James Madison Women’s Golf finishes eight at Sun Belt Championship

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – James Madison women’s golf wrapped up its first-ever Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon, finishing eighth at the par-72, 6,134-yard Hills Course at LPGA International.

Junior Amelia Williams led the way for the Dukes, tying for 12th among 65 competitors with rounds of 77-71-74 (+6), notching her third top-15 finish at conference championships to open her career.

As a team, the Dukes were just one shot behind seventh-place Old Dominion on the 13-team leaderboard, carding rounds of 305-298-306 on the week.

Senior Kate Owens was just two shots back of Williams in a tie for 16th (74-77-73), closing her storied JMU career with the program’s third-lowest career scoring average ever and having played more rounds in a JMU uniform than any player in program history.

Junior Kendall Turner was two behind Owens after shooting 74-74-78 to tie for 24th, while sophomore Kayleigh Reinke finished 44th (80-76-81).

Junior Haley Quickel played the first and third rounds for the Dukes, shooting 86 and 81, while freshman Maria Atwood carded a second-round 78 in her first collegiate conference championship.
