BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Bridgewater College men’s basketball fell to Washington & Lee, 69-59, Wednesday night at home.

The Bridgewater College Eagles (BCE) have dropped to 6-10 overall and 2-5 in conference play, and the Washington & Lee Generals (WLU) have moved to 14-2 and 6-1 in the ODAC.

How It Happened
Bridgewater kept scrapping and hustled for the entire 40 minutes of action, but the Washington & Lee Generals found a way to get past the defense safely throughout the contest.

In the first 20 minutes, the Generals found success from the three-point arc and opened up the game with comfortable margins. The Eagles fought hard to defend all spots on the floor, but the Generals drew fouls and attacked hard at the basket. In seven minutes of play, WLU pushed ahead to an 18-10 lead. Soon after, the lead jumped to double digits, forcing the Eagles to apply more pressure.

With under two minutes, WLU held strong momentum and capped off a commanding scoring run for an 18-point advantage. The first half finished out at 44-26.

BCE managed to lessen the turnovers and worked back closer into a smaller deficit. Halfway through the second half, WLU maintained momentum with the largest lead of the night at 61-42, but the Eagles did not stop there.

The Eagles powered through rough defense and found lanes to the basket for a kick out or a drive. Maleek Richardson saw the drive. Richardson plopped two while Kyren Smith cruised to the basket for the lay-in.

Jahmir Brown ran up the court to continue the developing scoring run and cashed in a jumper before the shot clock expired. The Eagles brought the deficit back down to 11 at 65-54 with three minutes to go.

Despite the fight being down 19, the Generals controlled the rest of the way to close out the matchup, 69-59.

Game Notes
• Jahmir Brown and Kyren Smith combined for 30 points on the night.

• Bridgewater struggled to limit second-chance opportunities as Washington and Lee grabbed 14 offensive boards.

• BCE improved shooting efficiency in the second half with a 53.85% clip from the floor after going at a 38% clip in the first half.

Up Next
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, Jan. 23 to take on ODAC rival Roanoke at 6 p.m.
