BROADWAY VA: (Rocktown Now) – The Broadway High School community is mourning the loss of longtime coach and mentor Tim Turner, whose dedication to student-athletes left an enduring mark on the school and the region. Turner, who retired from coaching at BHS just a few years ago, passed away after a courageous battle with illness. Turner was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease

Turner’s coaching career began in the Broadway Community Little League, and he later led numerous teams at the BCLL training facility in Timberville before moving into the athletic program at Broadway High School. Turner’s coaching career was defined by both competitive success and a deep commitment to the personal growth of his players. In 2022, he led the Gobblers to the Region 3C Tournament, coming within reach of the state championship. His teams were known not only for their skill and discipline on the field, but also for their sportsmanship and unity.

Beyond the scoreboard, Turner was a steady presence in the lives of countless students. Former players recall his ability to inspire confidence, teach resilience, and model integrity. “Coach Turner believed in us even when we didn’t believe in ourselves,” one former athlete shared. “He taught us how to win with humility and lose with grace.”

After retiring from coaching, Turner faced his health challenges with the same mental toughness he had instilled in his teams. Friends and colleagues describe him as a fighter, a mentor, and a friend whose influence extended far beyond athletics.
