VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (BC Athletics) – The Bridgewater College Softball team fell to No. 1 Va. Wesleyan in game two of the ODAC Championship Series.

Score: No. 1 (1) Va. Wesleyan 12, (6) Bridgewater 2
Records: Bridgewater 29-16, Va. Wesleyan 45-0

How It Happened
• Bridgewater jumped on the board first. Caroline Malandra singled up the middle on the third pitch she saw and a bunt from Anelia Baldwin moved her to second. McKenna Mueller delivered in a clutch spot as she doubled to drive in Malandra and make it 1-0 BC.
• Mackenzie Cauthorn got two quick outs in the bottom of the opening frame, but a pair of singles put runners on. Pollock stepped in next and drilled a ball over the wall in left for a three-run blast to make it 3-1.
• BC went down in order in the top of the second and the Marlins struck again. A pair of walks put runners on before a double moved the lead runner across, making it 4-1. The runner in third scored after a groundout to Muelelr at short stop for the first out, but Tucker cashed in with a two-run blast to make it 7-1 with an out in the second. Elena Williams came in from the bullpen and got the Eagles out of the frame.
• Bridgewater struck back in the third as Baldwin legged out an infield single. Mueller followed with a hard-earned walk to put a pair of runners on. Lily Moyers dug in next and drilled a ball to third. The fielder couldn’t handle it, and it rolled into the outfield. Baldwin scored with ease as Mueller and Moyers reached third and second. A strikeout ended the frame, but BC had life.
• The Marlins added on in the home half of the third thanks to a pair of one-out singles. BC got the second out on a fielder’s choice, but a two-out single by Tucker drove both in and made it 9-2.
• The Eagles went down in order in the fourth and Virginia Wesleyan added to the lead again. With two down Pollock left the yard again with a solo blast to straight-away center to make it 10-2. Kylie Jones came into pitch for BC, but the Marlins added two more to make it 12-2.
• Bridgewater put a runner on in the top of the fifth as Baldwin legged out another infield hit, but a groundout ended the contest as the Marlins locked up the ODAC crown.

Match Notes
• Cauthorn (16-9) took the loss in the circle after going the opening 1.1 innings. Baldwin led the BC offense with a pair of hits, while Malandra, Mueller and Moyers reached third all registered a base knock as well.
• Adam’s picked up the win for the Marlins after going the distance in the circle. Tucker and Pollock fueled the VWU attack with four runs batted in.
