BRIDGEWATER, Va. (BC Athletics) – Erinn Lockard made six saves and Laney Fayard played a key role in helping the Bridgewater College women’s soccer team earn a 0-0 draw against Batten Wednesday afternoon at the Bridgewater Soccer Complex.

With Batten ranked No. 16 in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer NPI rankings, the result marked the first time in program history that the Eagles faced two top-25 opponents in a season without losing either matchup (Sept. 5 vs #12 Mary Washington, 1-0 Win).

Score: Bridgewater 0, Batten 0
Records: Bridgewater 8-1-2 (3-0-2); Batten 8-0-3 (3-0-1)

How It Happened

• Lockard kept the match scoreless with two saves against Courtney Mills just 16 seconds apart in the 26th and 27th minutes. She added another stop against Keira Mulvihill in the 37th minute, giving her four saves before halftime.
• The Eagles nearly broke through in the 39th minute when Kylie Denton put an attempt on frame, but a Batten team save denied the opportunity. The teams entered the break scoreless, with the Marlins holding a narrow 5-4 advantage in shots.
• Batten threatened early in the second half, earning a corner before Lockard denied Alexis Manfredi in the 47th minute. Bridgewater answered with attempts from Laura Narby and Lily Hewatt six seconds apart in the 50th minute, with Greco stopping Hewatt’s shot.
• Fayard played an important part in Bridgewater’s effort and contributed an attacking opportunity in the 63rd minute, sending a shot over the goal following an Eagles corner. Denton tested Greco again in the 73rd minute as BC continued searching for a breakthrough.
• Lockard recorded her sixth save in the 78th minute, stopping Manfredi again. Bridgewater weathered three Batten corner kicks over the final 11 minutes before earning a corner of their own with nine seconds remaining. Neither side found the net as the Eagles secured their fifth consecutive shutout.
