FOREST, Va. (BC Athletics) – Ben Bermudez of the Bridgewater College football team has been named the Old Dominon Athletic Conference’s Special Teams Player of the Week after his historic Saturday against Guilford.

Bermudez nailed three field goals in the Eagles’ 19-14 victory over Guilford in a rainy Greensboro on Saturday. The senior from Virginia Beach nailed a 22-yard attempt in the second quarter to get the Eagles on the board. His number was called again with the game on the line in the fourth quarter. Bermudez knocked a 31-yard attempt through the uprights with 6:41 to go to give the Eagles a 16-14 lead. In the final minute Bermudez answered the call again, this time in historic fashion. Bermudez drilled a 50-yarder to add on to the lead with 56 seconds to go.

The senior’s tally in the fourth quarter was just the third 50-yard or longer field goal in ODAC history and just two yards shy of the league record set by Bridgewater’s Michael Padgett in 1998. This is Bermudez’s second ODAC Player of the Week honor.

Bridgewater is back in action on Saturday as Washington & Lee visits on Hall of Fame Weekend.
