BALTIMORE, Md. (EMU Athletics) – After opening the 2025 season at home, the Royals field hockey team made the trek north for its first road test of the season.

After Goucher took an early 2-0 lead, the Royals were able to cut their deficit to one with a goal in the third. But the Gophers added to their lead with an insurance goal in the fourth, picking up a 3-1 win over EMU.

Highlights
• Goucher picked up its first goal at the 5:15 mark of the first quarter and added their second after Emma Huante’s first save bounced out and found the stick of a Gopher, who put it in for a 2-0 lead.
• Camryn Lohr picked up EMU’s first shot on goal of the night late in the first, but it was saved as GC took a 2-0 after one.
• In the second, both defenses played lockdown, just allowing one shot, a shot from Goucher that was saved by Huante.
• Huante had a monster start to the third quarter, coming up with five saves in a span of three minutes, including three in seven seconds. EMU was able to get on the board after a penalty corner from Sophia Armato, as she sent the ball to just outside the shooting circle to Shay Gough. Gough sent the ball towards the net, it was blocked out to Jada Gibson and Gibson sent it home, for her first collegiate goal.

EMU was able to pepper the Gophers keeper, with three shots coming from Joni Wiederman in 20 seconds, but none were able to hit paydirt. Huante added two more saves in the frame, to keep the Royals deficit at two, but Goucher was able to escape with the win.
