HARRISONBURG, Va. (EMU Athletics) – In a midweek showdown, the EMU field hockey team welcomed in Wilson College to the EMU Turf Field.

It was a defensive battle in the first half, with neither team finding the back of the net. But the Phoenix broke the game open in the third quarter, netting four goals, en route to a 5-0 win over the Royals.

Records: EMU 0-7, 0-0 ODAC | Wilson 2-5, 0-0 United East

Highlights
• The Phoenix put a shot on goal early in the game, but Emma Huante came up with her first save to keep Wilson off the board. Neither team was able to put another shot on goal in the first, as the game went to the second knotted at zero.
• There was only one shot on goal in the second quarter, and it came off the stick of the Phoenix. But Shay Gough was in the right place, picking up the defensive save, to keep Wilson off the board.
• Wilson’s offense came out firing in the third quarter, peppering Huante with four shots in the first 6:30 of the quarter. The first-year stopped all four, but Wilson finally got on the board in the 37th minute, taking a 1-0 lead. They would add three more goals in the period, despite Huante’s three saves, to take a 4-0 lead to the fourth.
• EMU’s best offensive chances came in the fourth, both off the stick of Camryn Lohr. But her first shot was ruled a shot while her second was wide of the net, keeping EMU off the board. Huante added two more saves in the frame, but Wilson was able to tack on a fifth goal in the 52nd minute, to round out the scoring.
