HARRISONBURG, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison baseball was limited to three baserunners on Friday night, falling 10-0 in the opener with App State in Sun Belt Conference action at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Dukes dropped to 16-20 (6-10 Sun Belt) while the Mountaineers improved to 20-16 (8-8 Sun Belt).
At the dish, sophomore Reece Moody went 1-for-3 with a double. He added a stolen base, his 28th of the season to tie Mike Hubbard (1992) for eighth most in a season at JMU.
How It Happened
First Inning
The Mountaineers struck first with a pair of runs, scoring an unearned run on a bases-loaded walk before a grounder scored another run.
Sixth Inning
A two-run homer from Charlie Evans followed a leadoff blast from Jake Mummau to give App State a 5-0 lead.
Seventh Inning
App State extended its lead to nine runs, scoring on a single to start the inning. It then added three runs on an infield single that turned into a two-base error.
Ninth Inning
Evans hit his second homer of the game, a solo shot, to give App State a 10-0 lead.
Game Notes
• Patrick Bauer struck out a season-high seven batters across 3.2 innings of relief. It was his 15th career game of seven or more strikeouts.
• Bryce Greene tied his NCAA career high in strikeouts with three, which is also a new season best.
• With a seventh-inning double, Reece Moody extended his reached base streak to 10 games. It is his second reached base streak this season in double figures, as he had a 14-game streak earlier in the season.
