James Madison Softball comes up short at George Mason, 5-3

FAIRFAX, Va. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball dropped a midweek matchup to George Mason, falling 5–3 at the George Mason Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.

JMU (15-15) finished with three runs on 10 hits and an error, while George Mason (14-15) registered five runs on seven hits with no errors.

Emily LeGrand went 2-for-4 at the plate and scored a pair of runs to lead the Dukes at the plate. Kendra Lewis and Kira Ortega each went 2-for-4, with Ortega knocking in a pair of runs.

Logan Pickford went 2-for-4 to lead George Mason offensively, while Kamryn Inman knocked in a pair of runs and finished 1-for-3. In the circle for the Patriots, Bri Lencz got the win, allowing just two runs in 3.0 innings of work.

• The Dukes struck first in the second inning, as Emma Jo Evans doubled to bring home Bella Henzler and give JMU a 1–0 advantage.
• Later in the frame, Kira Ortega delivered an RBI single to score Emily LeGrand, extending the lead to 2–0.
• George Mason used a five-run bottom of the third to take a 5-2 lead.
• Ortega added her second RBI of the day with a single in the late innings, but the Dukes could not complete the comeback.

The Dukes will resume Sun Belt play at home on Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Park against South Alabama. The first pitch is at 5:00 p.m. and will air on the JMU Radio Network.
