NEW ORLEANS (JMU Athletics) – James Madison women’s soccer defender Jordan Yang has been named the Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. The honor marks the second weekly conference award for the Dukes this season.

This week’s recognition marks the second time Yang has received the award in her career, having also won it in October 2024.

James Madison began the week with a home contest against William & Mary, where Yang played an integral role in a backline that shutout the Tribe, 4-0, for the Duke’s second clean sheet of the season.

Later that weekend, Yang provided an assist on Audrey Orrock’s equalizing goal to finish with a 1-1 draw against No. 9 Penn State, the Nittany Lion’s lowest scoring match of the season. The draw marks the Duke’s first time ending even with a top ten opponent since 2011.

JMU will spend the week at Sentara Park, beginning with a match against Maryland on Thursday, Sept. 4th, at 6 p.m. James Madison will then host the defending national champions, No. 22 North Carolina, on Sunday, Sept. 7th, at 1 p.m.
