WASHINGTON, D.C. (JMU Athletics) – James Madison softball outlasted Georgetown in a back-and-forth battle, earning a 4-3 victory in eight innings on Wednesday afternoon.

The Dukes (20-20, 7-8 Sun Belt) extended their winning streak to four games, led by Cali Legzdin’s 2-for-4 performance that included a run scored. Overall as a team, eight Dukes recorded a hit.

Kira Ortega’s base hit came at the biggest moment of the game, driving in the go-ahead run in the eighth inning on a two-out single.

How It Happened
• James Madison struck for the first run of the game in the third inning, as Edwards drove in Emma Jo Evans with a single to give the Dukes a 1-0 lead.
• Later in the frame, LeGrand added on with an RBI single of her own, scoring Edwards and extending the advantage.
• Georgetown responded in the bottom half of the inning, using a two-RBI double from Emily Strittmatter to even the game at two.
• The Dukes regained the lead in the fifth inning when Payton List singled into center field, bringing home Kylee Gleason to make it 3-2.
• Down to their final out and with a runner on third base, the Hoyas tied the game at three on a double from Gabby Park to force extra innings.
• JMU found the difference in the eighth, as Legzdin doubled into scoring position after back-to-back flyouts. Ortega then came through with a single on the second pitch she saw to drive in Legzdin and give the Dukes a 4-3 advantage.
