ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, VA (Rocktown Now) — A tractor-trailer hauling approximately 30 large hay bales caught fire Monday evening, prompting a multi-hour emergency response from Hose Company Number 4 and the Weyers Cave Volunteer Fire Department.

The blaze occurred along the 3800 block of Cross Keys Road, where thick smoke and flames engulfed the trailer, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and residents nearby. Fire crews worked for several hours to contain and extinguish the fire, which was fueled by the highly flammable hay cargo.

Authorities urged the public to avoid the area while cleanup and fire suppression efforts continue. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The incident follows another tractor-trailer fire earlier this month involving carnival ride equipment on the Exit 240 ramp of Interstate 81, where Weyers Cave crews also responded.
